If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 · World English Bible
Without an Excuse
Honesty with God does not need a polished introduction. You can name what happened without first explaining why you were tired, pressured, or provoked. John connects confession with God's faithfulness and righteousness. The invitation is not to minimize sin or to remain trapped in self-accusation. It is to bring what is wrong into the open, relying on God's promise of forgiveness and cleansing. This morning, consider whether there is something specific you need to confess. Perhaps you concealed a mistake, spoke unfairly about someone, or avoided a responsibility. Name the action plainly in prayer. Resist both the excuse and the sweeping verdict that you are beyond help. If another person was harmed, consider an appropriate next step: correct the information, replace what was taken, or offer an apology without asking them to comfort you. Confession can become the beginning of repair, rather than another way to hide.
Morning Prayer
Merciful God, I want to be honest about what I have done. Help me name my sin without excuses and receive your forgiveness without continuing to punish myself. Where I have caused harm, give me courage to take responsibility and make appropriate repairs. Teach me to walk openly before you. Through Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
Evening Prayer
Father, as this day ends, I praise you for remaining faithful when I have not. Forgive the sins I would rather overlook, including the good I knowingly left undone. Keep regret from becoming another way of turning inward. Let your promised cleansing lead me toward obedience, and grant me rest in your mercy tonight. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
