But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

James 1:5 · World English Bible

Room to Ask

You do not have to begin the day with every answer. James gives a simple invitation to anyone who lacks wisdom: ask God. The need for guidance is not something to disguise or apologize for. Notice how God’s giving is described. He gives generously and without reproach. This verse invites us to approach him rather than retreat in embarrassment over what we do not know. Perhaps today holds a decision about your time, your work, or someone who needs your help. Before choosing the quickest response, make room to ask for wisdom. Read the relevant message again. Listen carefully to the people involved. Consider whether your choice is honest, patient, and loving. Asking God for wisdom need not be reserved for major turning points. Begin with the decision nearest to you. Admit what you do not know, pray plainly, and resist the pressure to act as though you know everything.

Morning Prayer

Father, I need wisdom for the choices in front of me. I can confuse urgency with importance and confidence with understanding. Help me slow down enough to ask, listen, and consider. I receive your invitation to come without shame. Guide me toward an honest and thoughtful response today. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Evening Prayer

Father, as this day ends, I bring you the choices I am still questioning. Your generosity is greater than my understanding, and your welcome does not depend on my having answers. Forgive the moments I refused correction. Where repair is needed, show me how to begin. Give me wisdom to leave unfinished matters in your care tonight and receive tomorrow’s responsibilities with humility. In Jesus' name, Amen.
