Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 · World English Bible

Help Before You Have It Together

You do not have to finish sorting yourself out before you ask for help. This verse invites people in need to draw near, not to wait at a distance until they become less needy. The invitation follows the description of Jesus as a high priest who understands human weakness. Our boldness is not confidence in our own readiness. It is a response to the welcome offered through him. We approach a throne described by grace, seeking mercy and help. Perhaps this morning holds an appointment you dread or a responsibility that exposes your limits. Instead of promising yourself that you will manage without difficulty, name the need before God. Be specific: help with the conversation, mercy where shame keeps circling, grace when your resources feel thin. Then take the next practical step, whether that means preparing your notes or asking someone qualified for assistance. Asking God for help need not wait until every other effort has failed.

Morning Prayer

Jesus, I come with needs I cannot tidy away. Thank you for understanding weakness and making room for me to approach. I ask for mercy where I feel ashamed and grace for the responsibility ahead. Help me receive assistance without pretending I am self-sufficient. Let my first movement be toward you rather than away. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Father, as this day ends, I worship you as the holy God whose throne is a throne of grace. I bring you the words I regret and the burdens still unfinished. Forgive my sins, and quiet my attempts to excuse them. I entrust tomorrow to your will. Sustain me through the night by the mercy available through your Son. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
