And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men,

Colossians 3:23 · World English Bible

Care in the Ordinary

Before you begin the familiar round of emails, dishes, appointments, or repairs, consider what it would mean to do one task with wholehearted care. Paul directs his readers to work as for the Lord rather than for human approval. His words turn attention away from the audience and toward the purpose behind the work. A task can deserve care even when it earns no praise and appears on no report. Working heartily does not mean working endlessly or proving your worth through exhaustion. It means bringing sincere effort to the responsibility actually before you. Sometimes that includes asking for help, admitting a limit, or choosing a realistic standard instead of perfection. Pick one necessary task this morning. Put aside a distraction, gather what you need, and give it your attention for a set period. Whether the result is noticed or not, you can approach the work as something offered to the Lord rather than performed for applause.

Morning Prayer

Lord Jesus, I offer You the work waiting for me. Help me approach it with care rather than resentment or a hunger for praise. I need focus for what is mine to do and honesty about my limits. Let my effort be sincere, whether anyone notices it or not. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen..

Evening Prayer

Father, You have seen the choices hidden within this day's work. Thank You for being just and worthy of my service. Forgive the corners I cut and the kindness I withheld. Where correction is needed, help me make it willingly. I leave unfinished responsibilities in Your care tonight, asking for rest and a readiness to obey tomorrow. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
