“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46:10 · World English Bible

Before the Noise Begins

Before the first notification arrives, there may be a small space in which to become quiet. You do not have to fill it. Psalm 46 speaks of upheaval, troubled waters, and wars. Its call to be still does not depend on peaceful surroundings. In the middle of things people cannot control, God declares who he is. His place does not depend on our ability to keep everything together. This morning, take one minute before opening your messages. Sit without preparing an answer, solving a problem, or planning your next move. Read the verse slowly. Let your attention rest on the words, “I am God.” The noise may return quickly. Your responsibilities will still need care. But you can begin by remembering that you are not responsible for holding the whole world in place. Stillness makes room to acknowledge the One who is God.

Morning Prayer

God, I come into this quiet moment with a mind that wants to keep moving. Help me stop long enough to acknowledge you. I cannot manage everything around me. As I begin my work and meet my responsibilities, let me remember who you are without pretending that everything is calm. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen

Evening Prayer

Father, this day is ending, but your rule has not weakened. You are worthy of honor in every place, including the parts of my life I keep guarded. Forgive my attempts to have the final word. Help me release resentment without excusing wrong. As I rest, keep me from rehearsing tomorrow’s battles, and teach me to entrust unfinished matters to your wisdom. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen
