So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12 · World English Bible

A Life With Edges

Calendars can make time look endlessly replaceable. If something matters, we tell ourselves there will be another week, another visit, another chance to say what needs saying. Psalm 90 asks God to teach us to number our days. The prayer faces the limits of human life without treating those limits as a reason for despair. Remembering that our time is finite can help us recognize what deserves our attention. This is not a demand to make every moment productive. A wise use of time includes unhurried meals, necessary sleep, and space to care for people. The question is whether our habits reflect what we say matters. Look at your plans for the week. Is there one meaningful thing you have repeatedly postponed? Make a small, realistic place for it. Call the relative. Arrange the appointment. Begin the conversation. Let awareness of life’s limits clarify rather than frighten you.

Morning Prayer

Teach me, God, to face the limits of my life without becoming anxious about every passing hour. Help me see what deserves a place in my schedule and what can be released. I want my use of time to reflect love and care, not only urgency or habit. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Father, this day is passing, but you remain my dwelling place. Thank you for the mercy I received within its ordinary hours. Forgive the pride that made me act as though I were answerable only to myself. As I rest, deepen my reverence for you and my readiness to receive your instruction. Through Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
