Like a city that is broken down and without walls is a man whose spirit is without restraint.

Proverbs 25:28 · World English Bible

A Boundary Before You React

What usually happens between your first feeling and your next action? Sometimes there is barely a breath. Irritation becomes a sharp message, boredom becomes an hour of scrolling, and disappointment becomes a decision you later regret. Proverbs pictures an unrestrained spirit as a city without protective walls. The image is not an invitation to become cold or unreachable. It shows the vulnerability of living without boundaries around our reactions. Strong feelings are real, but they do not have to direct every choice. Choose one practical boundary before the day gathers speed. Leave an upsetting message unanswered until you have read it twice. Put your phone out of reach during breakfast. Step away briefly when your voice starts rising. Restraint can begin with a small pause that protects what matters. You can acknowledge a feeling without giving it immediate permission to act.

Morning Prayer

Father, my reactions sometimes move faster than my judgment. Help me notice the moment when I need to pause. I want to handle my feelings honestly without letting them harm others or govern my choices. Show me one useful boundary I can practice, and help me keep it with patience. Through Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Father, as this day ends, I remember words I cannot take back. You are patient and just. Forgive my careless speech, and prepare me to make amends where I caused hurt. Keep resentment from settling in me, and teach me to forgive. I entrust unfinished conversations to your wisdom tonight. Through Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
